Leicester City announced on Friday the signing of Dutchman Ruud van Nistelrooy as the team's new technical director until June 2027, succeeding Welshman Steve Cooper, who was dismissed due to poor results.
The English club said in a statement on its website: "We are pleased to confirm the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as the new technical director of the first team at Leicester City."
It continued: "The 48-year-old Dutchman joins us with a wealth of experience at the highest level of the game, both as a player and as a coach, and has agreed terms on a contract until June 2027."
He added: "Rud will arrive in the UK in time to be present for our trip to Brentford in the English Premier League on Saturday, before assuming full first-team responsibilities from Sunday."
The statement added: "Our new coach has enjoyed a career full of success and titles, having played for clubs such as PSV Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid, scoring 349 goals at club level, in addition to 35 goals in 70 appearances for the Netherlands national team on the international stage."
It is worth noting that Van Nistelrooy worked as assistant to his compatriot Erik ten Hag at Manchester United, before taking over as interim manager after ten Hag's sacking, but he left shortly afterwards with the arrival of Portuguese Ruben Amorim.
Van Nistelrooy will take charge of Leicester City for the first time on Tuesday when they host West Ham United at the King Power Stadium in the English Premier League.
Leicester City sit 16th in the English Premier League table with 10 points after 12 competitive games, winning just two, drawing four and losing six.
